Andy Warhol‘s edition for Parkett 12 (see image 1, for cover see image 2) was completed, signed and shipped to Parkett only a few days before Warhol‘s untimely death following a routine operation related to the gun shots he had received in an attack by Valeria Solanas in 1968. Richard Avedon had photographed Warhol about one year after this assault which as image 3 shows left multiple scars on Warhol‘s body. The timing of Warhol’s subject matter of the skeletons for his Parkett edition seemed an eerie coincidence. Image 4 shows Warhol with Parkett editor-in-chief Bice Curiger on the occasion of his exhibition opening at the Kunsthaus Zurich in 1976.
