“… he is not looking for the iconic, historical moment or event, but rather for the coincidental encounter experienced in his case only by the photographer and the bird. Time, patience, and an unwavering mental focus based on a profound passion for his subject informs Mylayne’s work as an artist.” Josef Helfenstein Parkett No. 85, 2009

“In his color photographs, Jean-Luc Mylayne, along with his partner and collaborator, Mylène, meditates on the convergence of art and ornithology. Having abandoned the conveniences of home, car, and material ownership in pursuit of a nomadic life devoted to his art practice, Mylayne photographs birds in their natural environment. His ongoing project is bound in the intense intersection of observation, time, place, and natural history. In “Face to Face”, his two part installation for Parkett, he beautifully depicts a bird underneath a sun ray in his natural habitat both on a transparency framed in a stunning plexi object as well as on a separate c-print.” -Artsy
