Parkett Vol. 44

Quote from Parkett
“Art has many different levels and you have to make your own level. You have to decide where you want to be, and then just go for that. It doesn’t have to do with anything else in the world. Just yourself. You get there, and maybe nobody sees it, but you get there. It is, at least as I think of it, a spiritual thing.”
Rirkrit Tiravanija, Parkett No. 44, 1995

Additional Quote
“Using human interaction as his primary material, Rirkrit Tiravanija goes beyond performance to create socially-engaged conceptual works that blur the boundaries of art in novel ways and bridge the division between public and private … As with his edition for Parkett, a copy of his own pair of glasses with engraved words, Tiravanija initiates ways to enable the public to be a part of the art-making process ….”. -Artsy

Artist Document
In this message Rirkrit Tiravanija indicates the texts on four lines to be engraved on the lenses of a pair of glasses, his project for Parkett 44:

LONG RIVERS - A SINGLE LINE - AT TWILIGHT - ORANGE SAFFRON.

He then continues saying “... that the text (should) feel like scratch marks on the lenses. One should definitely put the glasses on, as normal, as one would be wearing sunglasses...“ (The glasses are the same model like those the artist wore at that time).
